As a pro-active organisation, the aim of the Underberg/Himeville Community Watch is to respond, inform and co-ordinate law enforcement and emergency services within the municipality and surrounding rural areas.

With our extensive communications base and experienced staff, we respond to all calls - and alert the required services within minutes on a 24/7 basis.

Responding to calls for assistance in the events of:

  • Wild fires.
  • Crime.
  • Road accident.
  • Mountain Rescue.
  • Stock theft.

A brief history

Nestling in the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg, surrounded by extensive farmlands and situated in the municipality of Kwa Sani, lie the two villages of Underberg and Himeville.

In 1995, so as to counteract the problems of crime and stock theft in the area, the Underberg Farmer's Association formed farm watch, and appointed John Pearce as controller.

At the end of 1997, Farm Watch was disbanded.

In 1997 John was given the task of approaching the community with the idea of forming a Community Watch. This Organisation would offer an affordable, 24 hour emergency co-ordination service to the community as a whole. The UFA continued to fund John for a further three months whilst Community Watch was formed.
